Founded in 1995 by Eric Seamans and his father, Robert, with little more than a passion for New England hockey, Seamans Media has expanded into a sports media empire, covering four distinct sports with five monthly magazines and websites across seven states.

Our magazines

All of Seamans Media's magazines are full-color, tabloid-size (11x14) monthly periodicals that are distributed FREE to our readers throughout the region. The publications are available wherever people play or purchase equipment for their individual sports. Our readers are a highly targeted, self-selected audience that seeks out every issue and is totally engaged with our content. Demand for our publications is so high that most issues are completely distributed within a couple of weeks of their release. In fact, many devoted readers pay a subscription cost to ensure that individual magazines are delivered to their homes every month.

Each publication is supported by its own unique website, which is loaded with dynamic content and updated daily. Our online properties receive millions of page views every month from readers all over the world, and visitors typically spend more time on our sites than the industry average.

Timeline

1995
New England Hockey Journal is started out of a garage in Quincy, Mass., by Eric Seamans and his father, Robert J. Seamans, Sr. (1929-2001), to fill the New England region's void for a quality hockey magazine that covered all segments of the sport. Since that time, New England Hockey Journal has become the cornerstone of our print portfolio. According to most of our advertisers and ad agencies, it is the gold standard in hockey journalism.

1996
New England Ski Journal and skijournal.com are launched, covering the ski and ride industry throughout the region. New England Ski Journal is now one of the longest-published regional ski publications in the world. New England Ski Journal was named the 2009 winner of Award in Print Excellence and Superb Craftsmanship in Magazine Newsprint from the Graphic Communications Industry of Rhode Island.

1997
Hockeyjournal.com is launched as one of the first-ever regional hockey websites, since that time, it has become one of the highest-trafficked regional hockey websites in the world. Hockeyjournal.com's daily coverage includes up-to-the-minute Bruins news and information, plus in-depth coverage on every New England college hockey division, minors, preps and high schools.

1997
The New England Hockey Journal Radio Show takes to the air. The show most recently aired on ESPN Boston 890-AM on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- hockey drive time -- and was hosted by Hockey Hall of Famer Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe and New England Hockey Journal, along with Mick Colageo. In 2009, the show showed consistently showed up in Arbitron ratings for the coveted male 21-29 and 25-54 demographic.

2008
New England Lacrosse Journal and laxjournal.com are formed. Within 24 months, almost every major lacrosse equipment manufacturer and retailer in the sport is advertising in every issue and sees immediate return on their advertising investment.

2010
New England Baseball Journal and baseballjournal.com join Seamans Media's lineup, filling New England's insatiable appetite for all levels of baseball, from the Red Sox to the Cape League to high schools. Within two issues, some of the most iconic and respected baseball brands are advertising in every issue and online.

2011
New York Hockey Journal and nyhockeyjournal.com are launched, expanding beyond the New England region for the first time in company history. Seamans Media's hockey footprint now reaches just about every hockey player, parent, fan and decision-maker in the Northeast with a combined reach of more than 1.4 million magazine readers per year.
